What is Cryptozoology?
Cryptozoology is the study of hidden or unknown animals—creatures that exist outside of what is currently accepted by mainstream science.
This doesn’t only refer to undiscovered species. It also includes animals that may already be known to science but appear in places they are not expected to exist, as well as species once thought to be extinct that may still be surviving in remote or overlooked regions.
No matter where you live, there are reports of unusual animal encounters and unexplained sightings being reported around the world. Many of these accounts come from ordinary people who were simply in the right place at the wrong time—or perhaps the only people to notice something out of the ordinary.
People who research these phenomena come from all walks of life. Scientists, outdoorsmen, historians, and independent investigators all contribute to the field in different ways. These researchers are commonly referred to as cryptozoologists, and the creatures they study are known as cryptids.
The cryptids featured on this site represent only a small sampling of the creatures reported and discussed within the field of cryptozoology. They are some of the most widely known and frequently reported beings—but far from the only ones.
