What is a Sasquatch?

At this time, there is no single confirmed explanation for what Sasquatch—or Bigfoot—actually is. What exists instead is a wide range of theories, interpretations, and ongoing debate.

One of the most commonly discussed possibilities is that Sasquatch could be a surviving population of an ancient ape species such as Gigantopithecus blacki, which is known from fossil records but not believed to be currently living.

Another theory suggests that Sasquatch may be a form of primitive hominid—potentially related to early human ancestors such as Neanderthals or other unknown branches of human evolution that may have survived in remote regions.

More unconventional theories also exist. Some researchers and experiencers propose that Sasquatch could be extraterrestrial in origin, or part of a broader class of anomalous intelligence that does not fit neatly into known biological classification.

In more recent discussions within the paranormal and high-strangeness community, additional ideas have emerged—ranging from ultraterrestrial explanations (beings that originate from a non-human, non-extraterrestrial source potentially existing alongside our reality) to tulpic or thought-form phenomena influenced by collective belief and consciousness.

While none of these theories are confirmed, each attempts to explain a consistent pattern of sightings, encounters, and reported behaviors that continue to be documented across different regions and cultures.

Sasquatch remains an open question.

Sasquatch in North America:

Sightings of large, hair-covered hominoid creatures are reported around the world, but in North America these beings are most commonly referred to as Sasquatch or Bigfoot.

Reports of these entities date back centuries and appear in numerous Native American oral traditions and regional folklore. In many of these accounts, they are described as “wild men of the forest,” suggesting a long-standing awareness of something unusual inhabiting remote wilderness areas.

Modern eyewitness descriptions are often surprisingly consistent. Sasquatch is typically reported as a large, bipedal, hair-covered creature ranging anywhere from 6 to 12 feet in height. Common physical descriptions include a broad, barrel-shaped chest, little or no visible neck, and a relatively small, conical or rounded head in proportion to the body. Hair coloration is most often described as dark brown to reddish-brown, though some reports include lighter tones such as gray, white, or silver—sometimes interpreted as possible evidence of advanced age.

Footprints associated with Sasquatch sightings are also frequently reported and are often described as resembling an oversized human footprint. These tracks typically range from approximately 14 to 16 inches in length and show a consistent bipedal gait pattern.

Across North America, regional variations of the same phenomenon appear under different names. These include the Skunk Ape in Florida, the Grassman in Ohio, and the Fouke Monster reported in and around Fouke, Arkansas. While the names differ, the reported characteristics share strong similarities.
